Looking for a pair of decent fins. As of now I'm just free diving but plan to scuba dive later.

Thanks
James

Those are terrible free diving fins. Way too heavy.

James, I don't konw a whole bunch about freediving fins but if you're looking for a good all-round fin that you can can use for snorkeling and scuba diving then take a look at the Mares Avanti Quattro (paddle) and the Apollo Bio (split) fins. These are good baselines for decent all-round fins.

Generally speaking the right fin makes enough of a difference to your comfort and efficiency in the water that many people tend to buy specialized fins for each activity.... The jetfins suggested are excellent fins for certain applications but probably not for your application.

If you have the funds I'd say go the specialized route, otherwise look for an efficient all round fin that isn't too heavy and one that certainly isn't too flimsy.

I'm sure others will check in with various features of their favorite fins. Shop around. It's time well spent.

At present, the best selling fins in the world, for good reason, are SCUBA-PRO twin jets, Mares Avanti/Quattro, Apollo bio-fins, Cressi open heel and full foot fins. You will get a very strong argument from some re: older style paddle fins, such as the Scuba-Pro jet, US Divers/Aqua-Lung Rockets and some others. As most folks on this board will advise, do your homework, try out several models before purchase, and wear a large BS filter when talking to your local "expert". Best wishes for lots of safe diving.

Aren't Atomics in that list as well?

Shaka is right.

Stay away from split fins, especially if you're free diving. They're fine for gentle tropical waters but too elastic for hard work. I keep hoping I'll lose my over-priced Atomic splits I take for warm water leisure dives. I use $5 jet fins I bought on the net for anything serious. They out perform the Atomics.

How am i suppose to try fins out w/o using them in the water?
