We are looking at going to Hawaii for our first time in December and was wondering if that is a good time of year to go? Is that a good time to see manta rays? We will be in Kona. From what I have read, there is the possibility of whale sharks then. Any suggestions or advice?

There are typically quite a few good days of diving in December. However, we can also have a big NW swell and/or wind. We see mantas in December. If the surf gets really big, the manta site(s) could become un-divable. But I wouldn't worry too much. Come when you can. We are more likely to see whalesharks in the winter...but it's not a common siting. Humpbacks will be here.
