We started our love affair both in diving and in our relationship in Roatan back in 2007. We stayed at Cocolobo and had the place to ourselves in late August of that year.

We never stayed at AKR but with the twofer deal they have currently we are interested. Yes we both will do the the dive package. Experiences? Non biased reviews? Biased reviews? I'm open. It's been a while and we both consider Roatan a jewel. The first year there we rented a pregnant roller-skate and drove the entire island road structure, making it to Paya Bay and doing the whole nude thing for a day...weird. We used to watch the Cessna on floats take the billionaire Texan and his family down the spine towards the East to his personal island. We stood on the Eastern shore and thought how amazing it all was. We've been 5 times since and we stayed in a private on the beach condo twice, stayed in a low budget joint and a very nice hotel. AKR would be very different for us but maybe fun.

On the fence.

If you havent read through the Invasion thread there are Im sure going to be quite a few trip reports posted up shortly. I personally dont think you can go wrong staying at AKR and diving Roatan, but I am candidly biased as my wife and I will be retiring there in a couple of years.

We just got back from AKR two days ago. Loved the whole experience. My wife and I only briefly left the resort to provide some school supplies to the local public school so I can't really say much about anything other than the resort.

Everything about the resort was excellent. The food was good, and every single staff member I encountered was pleasant and "johnny on the spot". Even the cleaning people went out of their way to do whatever you needed with a smile. It was obvious that they were all happy to be working at AKR. Everything at the resort worked perfectly. The boats, the bungalows, etc.

The only exception being the internet. The internet also sucked when I was on 4G and at the airport so I'm guessing internet sucks everywhere on Roatan. Good enough for texting the occasional photo to a friend but I wouldn't plan to upload your trip photos until you get home.

We did several dolphin "extras" which were awesome. They have a great shark dive.

Alcohol isn't included in the AKR package deal. Between booze, extras, tips, and souvenirs we spent almost twice the package price while we were there. We only ordered alcohol on two of the days we were there.

I would definitely go back.

Well if you are thinking of running some sort of hotel or dive ops look no further than hiring my wife and I, she's a phenomenal Cajun chef and I'm a jack-of-all trades. :) Returning to Roatan is not the proper title, doing it via AKR is. Thanks.

Deal!

AKR has not changed much since 07/08, they have made some improvements/expansion but nothing crazy. The island has changed quite a bit in that time though.

If your a diver I don't think you will be disappointed with AKR on their 2 for 1 deal.

Kelemovor. - wish I would have known we could have met up for a beer

I'm still at AKR... if you have any specific questions post them... i may be able to get specific answers from the staff...

AKR is very good. Having just returned, I have no complaints.

Good facilities, food, dive op, and service all around.

Fresh pineapple, mango, and watermelon for breakfast is hard to beat.

Kayaks and paddleboards are a nice touch too.

It was my first time on Roatan, and I look forward to going back.

I will be looking into staying in the West End or West Bay areas next time, just for a little extra evening flavour.

I'd be happy to hear of any of your recommendations, having been fortunate enough to visit many times.
