Last week there was a massive 233,000gal spill of sugar cane molasses into Honolulu Harbor. Video feeds to local news stations show all marine life within the spreading sugary plumes are dead. Within the plumes, surface to depth oxygen levels are near-zero. Speculation is that this is the result of bacterial activity accelerated by the sugars.
