Hi there,

I am about to embark, well… have already begun the reading and studying process of my Divemaster, and can't seem to find a thread for us guys. Not being a qualified professional, I can't yet join the pro gang, but the other areas seem to be aimed at either the real techie guys or the basic scuba discussions, which are all great.
Do you have anything for those of us with our heads currently buried in the dive theory stuff?

I'm new to the board, but I'm certain that if you have questions or items you wish to discuss you could ask on this sub=board. As an instructor I would be happy to answer questions I can. The Instructor to Instructor board is a place for us to talk about issues and ask cross agency questions. Not really something the standard diver needs to be involved in on any basis.

Thanks for the support guys, I start the course properly on Monday, so I guess I will have any questions answered then.

I haven't been having problems as such, had just thought it might have been interesting to chat about the course with fellow DM students. Though maybe, in reality I am probably best off speaking to my instructor when I get there.

Have just finished working through the manual and workbook, so am looking forward to doing some of the practical stuff shortly.

As a fellow Divemaster Candidate, I think I know what you talking about, and I agree. I don't think it would be so much a place to discuss Haldane, micro-bubbles, and rental gear maintenance, but more so a place for moral support and maybe even a little pick me up every now and then. But I understand that SB can't provide a board for every little niche of diving, so maybe we can all simply pm each other until the day we attain those black cards.

Thanks for the offers of support… having said that, my course was so busy that I didn't get time to go on line to even ask any questions!!

I passed my Divemaster on Friday, must admit it was one of the best and most challenging months I have had… well worth it in the end. Good luck with it all Kd5izq, I look forward to hearing good news from you too.

I think it's great that SB is opening a I2I forum. I'm not a dive instructor (or even close), but I am an instructor in another discipline. I think sharing ideas and techniques with other instructors is an excellent way to improve your own teaching and their's as well. The only thing I hate is that I'm not anywhere close to joining you (planning to go MSD before DM.) Instructors, go for it! Anything that benefits your students is absolutely worth it, even if those unable to participate (like me) are jealous...

The instructor forum is just a place for instructors to discuss methods, swap stories and what not. It has nothing to do with information that would be potentially damaging to any one.

Keeping non-pros out of the forum has more to do with keeping the discussions on track than secrecy.

Then why not just make it read-only for the great unwashed?

(Yes, my question is somewhat rhetorical -- as an instructor in another discipline with even greater life-safety risks, I understand the value of a forum where one can be somewhat confident in the makeup of the community. In fact, I believe there's nothing wrong in saying so -- but that there is something vaguely annoying when folks hide that reason behind a more benign-sounding one. Not sure if that's what bugs UWSoujourner, but it bugs me. (A little. Not much.)).

Old thread, but I am a new poster. Personally I don't care if the instructors do have their own thread. If they want to be elitist and bad mouth their students that's fine with me. I have no desire to join your little clique anyway.

Nah, it's not any fun stuff like that. Most of these instructor folks are just too darn nice and boring. It's more like questions of Standards and Procedures and training methods, stuff you need access to an Instructor's Manual to confirm or discuss. Hank
