The answer that i was shown and still use with them is to put a piece of tissue folded a couple of times underneath the plastic that has the terminal connections on it.. this extra couple of milimeters (1/16 of an inch) solves the contact problem with most batteries.

[sorry thought that the thread was UK not sunlight.. dont know about the inside of sunlight lamps............ maybe it is the same issue?] :-(
