I posted this in the Suunto forum too

My ten year old Gekko is not functioning for me. It keeps time and memory is intact, but when water activated, I only get "AC" on the screne.

It did work on one dive (I carried my back up computer), but only activated at 50 fsw depth--50 fsw was the zero point! I cleaned the contacts and repalced battery, but no improvement.

Is it worth trying to repair? Is it worth anything? Or should I just look to replace?

Thanks.

I guess the only way to know is to see what the repair would cost although I'm pretty sure there is a fee attached to checking it. May not be worth it. 10 years is a good run might be the perfect justification for a new toy. Can't imagine anyone wanting a malfunctioning computer. Good luck. I'm interested how this pans out, particularly Suuntos response. Cheers.

Ten years is a good run..time to get a new computer..my wife's gecko died last month and I'll upgrade her to a Sherwood wisdom ..wisdom not as conservative as the gekko ..

it is a sign from the Scubaboard gods that it is time to get a Petrel 2

@ 22.5 bucks a year, I'd just get a new one from LP. You can even get a black one.

When I read the post heading, I thought you had lost a beloved family pet.

Since it is just a computer, find out how much the repair will be. Even if you decide to buy another, two computers are better than one.

My old Oceanic started acting up and I had it "rebuilt" for $100 and it has been going strong since. I quote the rebuilt because they do rebuild the units, but you may not get back the same unit you sent in.

That's the funniest thing I've read/heard all day.
