why would one buy a bottom timer vs a computer, big price difference?

of course i've a depth gauge, still not clear i need a watch for the typical shore dives we do around the island, oahu, i never do boat dives

You can get DCS via 2 ways...Overstaying your bottom time or to rapid an ascent. Henry's Law...

Or through a series of multiple ascents and descents in a short period of time (think practicing 20 CESA in a row or similar).
