Okay,

Has anyone seen what he is doing? I just went to yahoo.com and there is a news cast with an interview with him while he is underwater and he is saying that his body is in pain (all his muscles and lungs).

Does this have to do with nitrogen building up in his body????

Just curious about this whole thing. Any insights would be great!!!!

I didn't think he would be doing it until tonight. Isn't it supposed to be live?

My guess is he is in pain due to a loss of electrolytes as a result of being in water for so long. That can't be good for your body if you arent actually a fish or whale.

I'm wondering what gas mixture he is breathing. I imagine that oxygen can still be toxic at normal pressure if you are exposed to it long enough.

The guy seems like an idiot to me.

Even in that little of water there is still pressure on the body. So there is nitrogen build up and I don't think there has been any studies on the effects of long term shallow exposer. This statement was on MSNBC.com from a Doctor he has on Staff

"Gunel said the challenge had caused liver damage, sharp pains in Blaine’s feet and hands, some loss of sensation and rashes all over his body"

Sounds like type 1 DCS to me! But what do I know ( LOL )?

ScubaKimmie:
How deep is he, like 3 feet????

I believe the pain he is feeling may be caused by stupidity.

It gets to the extent where he's so stupid that he may feel no pain. Nor may many of the viewers of the tv special.

If he does drown during the breath-hold part maybe it will cause a positive interest in SCUBA diving.

You can only hope.

The pains are probably from his little brain disconnecting from the rest of his body.... LOL I guess that already happened.

Ox Toxicity can occur in a hospital bed at sea level or altitude. Oxygen is your pal, but it can croak you. You don't have to be diving.
