I'm a Fish!
I'm interested in taking the step into doing some video with my 5d3. Does anyone know of a program that will take the log download from my computer and put it in a useful form that I can overlay in the corner of the video? Ideally it would be an image of the computer in one of the corners showing roughly real time computer data in time with the video. I feel like I've seen something like this before but can't seem to find it.

I looked into it briefly for some of my cenote/cavern videos once, but came out empty handed just like you did. I've seen a really cool overlay in a video a couple of times, but every time it was different which made me suspect that they were custom jobs manually added to the video. If there is such a program or plugin for video editing software someone here ought to know about it. Good luck!

Just to add, there should be HUD-style graphical overlays available that you can add to your video, but you may have to add the numbers yourself. I would imagine designing the HUD would be most of the work (at least for me it would), so it'd be half a victory at least. As to how much work would remain after that depends on how precise you want to be (ie. depth updated every foot or every 5 feet, tank pressure every 10psi or every 10% etc.).

Couldn't find any dive videos either, but there were some other example videos on the front page and they looked pretty slick. They also say it has dedicated overlay(s) for diving. If you can import your dive log into that it would probably be just the thing you're looking for. It looks like you have to use their own program though, probably not ideal for underwater video editing but surely you can do those edits first with some other software. Good find :)

I found one video on Vimeo. The gauges are a bit confusing and seem to lag quite a bit behind in that video, but I'm sure you can synchronise them.
