A shop near me offers this course for $100. I was originally looking at their dive rescue course, but noticed that it counts as an advanced dive rescue course if you also have the O2 provider course under your belt.

I'm wondering if there would be any point for someone like me who is just a regular diver looking to go tech to take the O2 provider course or be advanced dive rescue certified instead of just dive rescue certified. I believe the rescue course is a NAUI course, at least my Nitrox course was at this shop, though it's not specifically stated on their site.

Who needs advanced rescue or O2 provider certification? Are they of any use for tech diving?

Edit: Changed title and last sentence. Mods, if you notice this please move it to the tech dive section.

I've been looking at tech courses and their prereqs. Just noticed that NAUI tech diver program listed at NESS requires o2 provider as a prereq (as well as first aid/cpr and rescue diver). So I guess tech divers may require o2 provider cert.

Is it something I would need a course for, or could I learn it from a manual/video?

Just my quick .02 psi. I think it couldn't hurt to know it.

I'm just a rec diver and will be taking the DAN 02 provider course as well.

I would say take the course. Knowing how to administer O2 to a diver in trouble is a good think to know, and the course lets you try it hands on. During the course that I took we did have some trouble with the gear, which we would have had a heck of a time trying to figure out if we were in a real event and had never acutally touched the equipment before.

Absolutely take the course.

By the way, that shop in Horsham has a good reputation in Northeastern NAUI circles.

Good info, but worthless in practicality if you don't have an O2 kit. You could learn it from a vid, but to be certified, you have to take a course.

Almost all dive boats carry O2 kits, especially on tec-dive trips. Also, if a diver really moves into the tec-world, buying an O2 kit for one's self (or one's dive buddy group) is standard.

Definitely take the DAN Classes, it better to have the knowledge and not need it than to need it and not know it!

I agree. Providing oxygen can help a patient out alot. I have personally seen the benefits of oxygen many many times (no dive related incidents, just working in EMS).

Taking the course will definetly be a benefit. Someday, you might need that knowledge.

Absolutely ditto - 02 kit is standard for all dives and particularly deco.
