Desided to have a look at getting insured for my diving, and checked out DAN's insurance at:

http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/insurance/compare.asp

All looks pretty good to me. I don't mind the preferred plan $70USD per year looks reasonable for everything listed.

But then, I realised that this site isn't for me (here Downunder). Instead we have Dan Asia/Pacific. So I check out there deals:

DAN Divers Alert Network Asia-Pacific : Insurance Comparison

There premium (preferred) package is nearly 60% more than the US package. Not only that, it EXCLUDES lost diving equipment, Travel cancellations and travel interuptions.

Seems like the US deal is much more sweat than the Australian deal, which is putting me off it at the moment. (As 1/2 the reason I was thinking of signing up was for the additional coverage for travel / holidays)

Just wondering if anyone uses any other diving insurance companies that I could compare this to?

Thanks

Adam.

Look at Dive Assure. I have that and they offer plans that include trip insurance along with dive insurance. I have the Diamond 1500 plan. It is good for up to 1500 on trip insurance for each vacation you do in a year...not just one but all of them. I hope you can buy this out of the US???

Thanks divegirl.

I gave them a look up, but looks like it's for US residents only. :(

I just use my travel insurance, which covers medical costs, travel cancellations, stolen valuables.. The whole shebang. The only problem is that it dont cover diving if i dive below 30 meter (~100 ft).

your travel insurance should cover most things and for the rest use DAN...I know it's cumbersome....

I guess they figure since you Australian's have the reef and all, you're more likely to actually go diving! We just have a bunch of vacation divers up here in the States.

I would second the advice of others to get the DAN coverage for your geographic area and then use travel insurance to cover the rest. In Europe you have to pay extra for DAN to cover lost equipment, travel cancellations, etc. I've never had to use DAN (yet and hope to never need to call upon their services), but from the stories I hear about what they have done for others (have a friend who works in that line of medicine), I will definitely keep my coverage active. Diving is an activity that can get expensive, but don't cut corners on your health/wellbeing!

I use Diveassure Diamond 3000 plan and have the basic Dan policy. The reason I use DiveAssure is I travel 4 to 6 times out of the country....Just got my renewal from Dive Assure....if you want the Multi trip plan.....Ouch....went way up.

Does anyone know of another multi trip insurer?
