Hello Down-Under!

I'm new to diving (in process of completing OW course this week), new to Scubaboard, and new to Australia...

I'm planning a three-dive trip from Cairns one day next month (using TUSA Dives -- any good?) and was also planning a day trip the following day to Daintree/Mossman Gorge/Cape Tribulation. I can't find any solid information on whether the Daintree trip will involve any substantial altitude changes. Should I be concerned, or do divers on holiday frequently visit Daintree the day after diving?

Many thanks in advance!

I don't know about TUSA but your trip to the daintree/cape trib will be fine. It's a great area up there.

Try and get on one of the river tours at the crossing to see crocs in the wild.

Daintree is mountainous but still pretty low. No worries. While you're up that way you should look into diving from Port Douglas just north of Cairns. Poseidon is a fantastic boat there and provides three-dive trips out to the reef, including lunch. Got my AOW with them and it's a first class operation. The Agincourt Reefs are terrific. You won't be sorry!

Are you using Tusa for just the 4 training dives - so doing a refreral? They are a good boat and generally one of the better day trip vessels up here. You could look at an overnight trip 2 or 3 days which would also get your qualification finished and give you some fun dives on top. Look at Taka as an example. Would be around same price.

The Daintree is beautiful and lots of people take trips up there from Cairns. Plenty of self dive, 4WD or bus tours go there daily and also differing accomodation. Look at PKs Jungle Village as a good option if you wanted to stay overnight.

Plenty of good day trip stuff to do on land as well. Port Douglas was also a good suggestion from geokr. Only 70kms away, so easy drive north for a day trip. But I would look at doing a couple of days in the Daintree and really get to go croc spotting and do some of the day activities there.
