I have a Mares Axis MR12 with matching oct. It is less then a year old with less then 30 dives on it and the oct. started to free flow before my second dive last time. How much do you think the dive shop will charge to fix that?

I have the chance to get a Dacor Viper Tec Reg/Oct/Analog guage set for 100$. I was planning on getting this as a back up and having it serviced. It is 2 years old and was used on less then 10 dives.

Which set would you use as your primary, I have read the Dacor horor stories and wonder if its even worth it. I think I could use this as my backup and get both sets serviced.

TIA

Give that your reg is under a year old, I would expect this to be covered under warranty. In all likelihood it simply needs to be de-tuned.

I have an Axis Octo with an Abyss Primary. This May in Bonaire it started to freeflow. Now, to be fair I have had this setup 3 years and when it was found that the high pressure seat needed replacing, I wasn't too surprised. Flipping it over stopped the free flow. When I got home I got it replaced.

Last January, also in Bonaire, my financee's Axis octo started free flowing, so I replaced it with my Nikos backup 2nd. This fall, my friends Axis octo started free flowing and so he started using it as his primary for the rest of the trip. He took his in to the LDS and they replaced a seat in the octo for about $15. My understanding is that the free flow is a problem common to the Axis octo, so I have since stopped using mine and replaced it with a Genisis Sidekick in line model.

I also have problems with Axis freeflow. My wife has an Axis Primary and Octo while I have only the Octo. All three have had freeflow problems within 5-6 months of light use. Would not recommend that reg to anybody.

I've brought this point up a number of times now...The Axis second stage has a completely free upgrade kit available to take care of this problem. The dealers are NOT supposed to be charging for the new crown and seat to be installed. Mares is supplying these without charge to the the dealers. The first year for the Axis was the primary problem. It takes me a grand total of around 5-7 minutes to take care of this issue.

If your local dealer can't/won't deal with the problem send me a message.
