Does anyone have, or tried the D9 AI or non AI? If so, what were your likes and dislikes? Did you purchase online or at your LDS? I would like to switch to wrist mounted from my vyper console and liked the idea of the computer and compass all in one. I think I would prefer non AI and keep my SPG seperate. Thank you for any feedback :)

Thank you very much. I had done a search prier to posting the thread so as to not waste anyones time. However most of them were rather dated and I was hoping maybe after ppl had some time to use the D9 there would be some more opinons.

sorry.

Oh! No problem I greatly appreciate the information :) The one on the recall was interesting. I wonder if they got all the problems worked out.

I have a D9 and love it! I dive with several other guys that have one too. I use the AI and don't have an extra SPG. The compass is giving me some fits only because I am used to seeing a whole compass dial and having the bezel to use. My friends that are used to compasses like those on an airplane (similar to the D9) had no problem getting used to the compass. The D9 does allow you to store a heading in it. The bugs in the downloading software are being worked out but there are still a few little issues.

I just got my D9 in the mail the other day from Leisure Pro. Only problem with it was that the manual arrived in german. After contacting them, they say they'll be sending out an English version once they get more in stock.

Having said that though, I was able to figure out how to use most of the surface features and configuration settings with just a little trial and error. It's very straight forward and easy to use. I ended up downloading the .pdf from Suunto's website to fill in some of the blanks til I get the paper manual.

I got the AI one and was surprised how much bigger both pieces were. It isn't HUGE but it's definitely noticeable on your wrist. I don't mind though because I like all of the features.

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I've had zero problems with the software interface and connecting it to my computer. I even like how it'll upload your log to the Suuntosports.com site with a click of a button.

I can't wait to dive with it! A few more weeks.

Just a quick reply to WarWolf, I have a D9 and a user manual in English. There are a few mistakes in it. I think better to download it from the Suunto download site. They have acrobat download and free acrobat upgrade if you need it. Hope it helps. They Don't explain so much in there. Just the basic functions. I was looking for some more info on the 100 % or 50% of rgbm. just says if you are willing to take the extra risk. how much? don't know. till I find out will just go with 100%. jm

Yes, that is true. There is no enough information about 100% and 50%. I was told that 50% is pre-include one deep stop that is required on 100% mode. It is still vague explanation though. I set up 50% because Suunto is already famous for the conservative RGBM. My big cons is an endless bug on DM SW.......

I just dove with a D9 this past week off NC...wreck and deep diving for my AOW. It worked great. Just make sure the computer and the transmitter are on the same side of the body...I have mine mounted on my right wrist and the transmitter on the right HP port of the 1st stage. It worked flawlessly for the 5 AOW dives.

I was a little hesitant about even bringing up this type of computer with my instructor....he's totally DIR...but he said go for it and assured me to trust Suunto's record. He has over 500+ techie dives so I gave it a shot and it all worked out reeeeeeeeeeeal nice. My only gripe is that the alarms on the D9 are a little weak.

I dove Nitrox too and it worked great programming in with a 50% RGBM, 30EANx, and 1.5 Opp. With this configuration, I was middle of the road in conservatism. His Uwatec alerted him for Deco before my D9 did (but hey, he's totally hard core and was a super guy to train with).

From what I can tell so far, if you use fact settings then you are very conservative but you can modify/adjust the EANx settings to your need to make your dive a bit more liberal. However, you MUST know how all this works through theory and charts beforehand.

It's a beautiful piece of equip too!
