Nice, I’ve though about this since it was mentioned earlier, unless someone beats me to it I’ll get a battery for the digital calipers and get some measurements.
PM me an address and I'll put you on the list for prototyping too!

The sticker I'm getting 26.98mm and the hex uses a 5mm but it's a fraction loose. I'm crap at stuff like this, hopefully Lex or Rob will get the measurements, I'd trust either of them over me.

That will get me started on design.... I'll refine if any more measurements come in and try to mail a first prototype Monday or Tuesday.

you'll have also to account for the fact that the hex bit is shifting up and down when you turn it.
 
If you have a recess in the underside of the cap that is the spanner pin, you could retain the hex key with a clip or o-ring...
