Singapore's EZ-Link card cannot be topped up with a foreign credit card, but you can use your foreign card to tap in and out for public transport such as the MRT and buses.
 
"Green back" is NOT an universal accepted currency.
CASH is king especially in SE Asia.
To use plastic on small purchase is asking for trouble nowadays.
The ferry ride between Butterworth and Penang in Malaysia does not accept cash so I had to ask fellow passenger to buy the ticket for me and reimburse that person right away. The cost is only MYR2.
 
Hi. For places like Singapore, Manado, Ambon,Sorong ……do taxi drivers accept US currency for the trip and for tips? What about restaurants and shopping? Trying to figure out how much cash to bring. We like to use a credit card for most things of course. Thanks for your guidance.
