I am not from Naui, so am not too sure of the exact reason.

However, I believe it's more for confidence building. Isn't it only required during professional courses?

PADI does not have the bail-out but on the other hand has the equipment exchange (everything except for the wetsuit and booties) underwater while buddy breathing. Also this is for confidence building and only required during the DM course.

To me, if an instructor asks a student to perform skills of such during the Open Water Course, is surely asking too much. No doubt the intention is good but Open water students are not ready for it and it's definitely a situation for an accident waiting to happen.

What happen to Diving is Fun & Safe...?
