We just returned from the beautiful isle of Curacao N.A. I thought a few comments on our trip may help someone deciding to vacation there. We stayed at "Lions Dive Resort". We had an ocean front condo with a fabulous view. The beach was semi-topless, so there was some nudity if you are sensative to that atmosphere. The bed rooms were 1 king and the other twin beds and each was airconditioned, but not the kitchen living room areas. One airconditioner broke but was fixed in a couple of hours. The kitchen was well equiped but had some local residents including some little white, ant like, or termite like bugs, and a few roaches,(5), crawling in the silverware drawer etc.(you get the idea). We were given a 16oz. can of fly spray insecticide and used it all. This would be a deal breaker had I known these facts.
We had a good meal at "Nemos", their best restaurant, but it cost over $100.00 U.S. "Hemmingways", their beach restaurant had good hamburgers for about $9.00, soda, $4.00 for 12 oz cup w/ice, and beer about $9.00 for a bottle of Grolech(very good).
We dove with "Ocean encounters". Dive masters were helpful and professional, reefs were prestene. Tips were shared by the boat. We saw alot of eels, reef fish, coral. Dives were pre selected by O.E. The Superior Producer could not be dived because there was a cruise ship in port every day. We didn't go to the "car pile" I don't know why. We went to "Mushroom Forrest",(extra $44.00 US).
I did get a little bored after 11 reef dives. We chose to go to "Klein island" for an additional $150.00 U.S. and $106.00 for our snorkeling wives. We went with the "Mermaid" on a Wed. and were treated to rough seas, an over loaded not very seaworthy boat(in my opinion). The boat was slow, it pitched and yawed, and the prop shafts were out of ballance. A high percentage of people got sea sick. Our wives couldn't snorkel because the reef was 200 yds out from shore and the wind was at least 25mph. The barbecau was very good, but all in all not worth, the money. We did see 3 turtles and a shark eel on the two dives.
We flew American Airlines, and they did a great job. No lost luggage, and they let us take an earlier flight on one of our stop overs in the U.S.
The trip was great except for the "bugs","food", and "Klein was a rip off".
Happy Diving, "Bug Catcher", could it be my choosen log on?
