We stayed at Habitat back in 2005 and loved the location, of course that isn't an option right now. :( We recently spent a week at Breezes and enjoyed that too. We used Ocean Encounters for our diving (on-site at Breezes) and they boats were pretty full every day, with fairly rough seas. When we stayed at Habitat, we did all shore diving and would probably go that route again next time.

We needed an all-inclusive this time for childcare, and loved the resort though, just prefer shore diving or less-crowded boats.

Any advice or insider tips on staying at the Breezes? I will be there in mid July for a dive trip. I also chose it so the family has something to do while I am out diving.

We've stayed at Breezes, and while we had some issues with our room, overall we had a great time. We also dove with The Dive Bus, and I couldn't give them a better rating or stronger recommendation. Easily the most fun dive Op I've ever spent a week of diving with. The "house reef" is fantastic from 20-25' all the way to 110+ at the car pile. I didn't really "love" the Island itself all that much, but the diving w/the Dive Bus was so much fun we're going back in a year or two. I want to dive Director's Bay a few more times!

If your room is in the tower building, the showers/tubs are designed in a weird way. They totally flood the bathroom when you shower due to the weird way the tile is done. There are many people who can confirm this - if you search a little, you'll see. If you just put a towel to block the water flow or are careful, it's not an issue. I can't say if this is the same in the other buildings.

The food is pretty decent, and the drinks are plentiful. We're not really drinkers, so a couple cocktails or glasses of wine is all we really had. There were some people complaining about weak drinks, but they were the type that spends the week drunk from what I could tell. Whatever, I guess.

One thing I would for sure suggest: bring or buy on the island a big water bottle. The cups at breezes are like 6oz or something, and I found it a pain to have enough water. I do, however, drink over a gallon a day. I bought a big bottle of water in the gift shop and just filled it up at the bars, as they have ice water you can self-serve.

I have only stayed at the Hyatt there and did dive from there. The dive op is fine though expensive. The Hyatt is scrumtrillescent over all.

We requested, and got, a room in the Flamingo building and it was fine. We wanted to be away from the noise of the disco and poolside music near the Royal Tower. We were in an oceanview on the second floor. That was convenient for us because my 4 year old son went to Kids' Club while we were diving. He loved the activities, and on Thursday they took them to the Sea Aquarium next door while we were diving and he watched a sea lion show, dolphin show, and fed the sharks. We did bring a large insulated mug because all the drinks are served in the small six ounce cups. I also brough a drink hugger to put my son's drink cup in (he drank his weight in virgin strawberry daiquiris while we were there!) so that he didn't accidently get it mixed up with an adult drink sitting by the pool.

The resort was pretty crowded on the weekends when many locals come in on a day-pass, but the lines for food and drink were not bad the rest of the time. We ate once at each of the sit-down restaurants (reservations required, make them on arrival day if you want to do these and you can't have two reservations at one restaurant until you've used the first reservation), but the buffet was good too and we actually preferred not having to be somewhere at a specific time.

Try the trapeze lessons, I did and it was fun! We watched the nightly entertainment by the pool most nights, and our son and some of his friends from Kids' Club would dance along to the music. The fact that he spoke English and the others spoke Dutch or Spanish didn't stop them from having a good time together. They do a circus performance on Thursday night that was good too.

We used the onsite operator, Ocean Encounters, and had some good dives although the boats were packed when we were there.

Request an ocean front room, if children are small probably request ground floor. Book dinners as soon as arive(non-buffet dinners). Everyone says the child care is awesome. Take a walk to The Dive Bus to talk to Suzy & Mark (maybe Colin/Kevin). Whether you chose to dive with them or not, you will have a blast "hanging at the Bus". We'll be there in August (not soon enough).
Have a great trip.
Tom

Sorry for the hijack:D

But thanks for the good info!

It looks like I want the flamingo building, bring my own cup and make some reservations for food.

Thanks again.

What's the water temp right now, leaving in four days for a two week stay at AW and need to choose what wetsuit to bring. A few years ago we hit Bonaire in August and the 2mm shorty was plenty with a water temp of 80-82 daily ( I went without on a few dives ).

Thanks.
