Don't miss Playa Forti too, if you're interested in macro. We never got below 20 feet / 7 meters, and did 5 dives there, and never had other divers in the water with us. Everyone will tell you it's a LONG swim to the reef. Just smile and say "Thanks!", and stay in the rubble near and along the wall below the Playa Forti Bar & Restaraunt (but keep an eye out for 'cliff divers').
We had great squid encounters at both Lagun and Vaarsenbaai in the shallows, along with the seahorse encounters around 50 feet deep at Varsenbaai. However, the paired bell siphonophores were thick in the shallows the second day we dove at Varsenbaai, so wear a full suit. We could see the turtle munching something mid-water that wasn't turtle grass, and we saw these in the shallows during the swim out to the wall. They always find my ears somehow, most annoying. My wife also wore a full suit but got no stings, but her hair is longer than mine. Stings from these critters on the backs of my hands and neck go away in about 5 minutes, but the ones on my ears last 1 to 2 hours. We didn't encounter them on any of our other dives on Curacao.
I'll never order food from the beach snack bar at Varsenbaai. Any place that charges US$2.00 per person admission yet can't put soap in the dispensers in either the Men's or Ladies' restroom is not someplace I want to have someone preparing my food to work.
We got pictures of six different types of eels at Snake Bay. Spotted Moray, Chain Moray, Goldentail Moray, Viper Moray, Sharptail, and Gold Spotted Snake Eels. Lots of lobster there as well, more than anywhere else we dove, including the spotted spiny lobsters and a large Spanish (shovelnose) slipper lobster.
We never went below 60 feet the whole 2 weeks we were there - having a great time on 60 to 90 minute dives with long photo & discovery sessions in the shallows. And my wife would still have half a tank left!
