snuggle:im thinking f going to either cuba or mexico to for a week of diving..any advice as to the best places to go including dive operators in each country?thanks..
elbuzo:In my opinion, and for my taste, Cuba have the best diving of the caribbean at Jardines de la Reina.
It's a small archipielago about 70 kms. from the central south coast of Cuba.
Due to their protection ( is a reserve ) and isolation is like a travel to the past , to how the caribbean reefs were 40 years ago .
In no other place in the caribbean you will see the amount of big fish that you will see there.
I went in the m/v Explorador 3 years ago and my only complain is that we didn't made more than 3 dives per day, mainly because the profile in most of the reefs are a bit deep ( 70 - 100 ft.) and no nitrox available.
Also don't expect luxury , boat is old and rustic but we were only three amigos and had the boat for ourselves because very few people go there and most of them are sport fishermans ( but don't worry because is catch and release).
The only catch allowed is for the meals of the visitors . By the end of the week you will probably hate to eat lobster .
I went Cuba 5 times during the last 8 years and trust me Jardines de la Reina is the best place by far.
This operator have an web page but i think that it doesn't provide much information also is not easy to comunicate with the italian operators (the manager is Pepe ) because they spend most of the time at the islands .
If you want to contact them i think that i have their phone numbers , let me know.
