ianr33, just for the record, it wasn't me speculating about the cause or being concerned with air quality. A friend of mine was on the same cruise, they had heard rumors and wondered what actually happened.

(I usually do sniff the air while setting up, as a matter of fact - something my trainer taught me)
 
Nah, it was me but I'm assuming it was the guys health that caused it unless I hear something different. The only reason I brought it up was the way they described it as he lost consciousness while on the dive. They gave no other info so it sounded like he just passed out. I'm sure a big outfit like that has their air quality checked regularly.
 
My first thought when its "male in the 50s" is cardiovascular medical issues. It could not be the case in this matter, but I find it more likely than contaminated air, equipment failure or bad dive behaviour when it just says "passed out and died"..
