crotch strap

I am in the process of setting up a new backplate and wing. I have installed the entire one piece harness, D rings, wing, STA, and cam bands. I've cut the webbing, melted the ends burned a hole in the webbing and basically finished the entire setup EXCEPT. I can't figure out how the put the crotch strap together. I've searched the web and scubaboard found the website below that shows a good picture of the setup. From what I can see in the picture they thread the webbing through the D ring and keeper twice. I've tried and can't get the webbing through the keeper two times. Is there a special keeper, or am I missing something in the assembly. I would really like to put this thing together and avoid the bolt, and the sewn loop. Any advice you folks can provide is appreciated. Thanks

They may be using a thinner piece of webbing or a keeper with wider slots.

Ya can't put 10 pounds of poop in a 5 pound sack!

Hi Jerry,

What we furnish with our "Hogarthian" crotch strap is a "Plain" keeper. That's a triglide with no teeth. The serrated type keeper or Triglide (the ones with teeth) have slots that are too narrow to get webbing thru twice.

We use a soft webbing for the crotch strap.

Is your crotch strap the same material as your harness?

I think Tobin nailed it. Use the soft webbing and the plain (bigger slots) triglide

I have keepers (plastic, no teeth) from Reef Scuba on my DIY crotchstrap (12000# cargo strapping) and it is tough to get the strapping through twice but I did succeed (and the webbing makes a sharp bend through the keeper as a result but is very secure although difficult to adjust on the fly).

If you can almost get it through, then might it be a matter of trying harder? Ends should be heat sealed, and I press my webbing immediately after heating with a scap of wood while the ends are still formable to make the ends flat.

Thanks everybody. I finished my set up yesterday. I bought a keeper without teeth and everything went together, but NOT easily. Still felt like 10 lbs of s in a 5 lbs bag. I used the stiff harness webbing which probably contributed to part of the problem. I'm going to use the set-up next weekend. I may switch to the soft material when I return. I'll tell you that putting the one piece harness on a back plate was a real learning experience, that is well worth while. Thanks again
