Thanks a bunch - lots of stuff I hadn't considered. I'm feeling much better about using one of these straps. :)

It's easy to make a new one of any width you like. Try each out. As I mentioned, the 2 incher fits standard hardware, the 1 incher doesn't. You're not out much to try each one.

Best!

Two inch soft on my rigs I dive with exposure protection. One inch on those that I dive without wetsuit and sometimes I just don't use a crotch strap because with the Freeedom Plate and the Oxy Ultralight Plate I just don't find a crotch strap to be needed. In any case I leave them failry loose, they are just there for added stability, not to scrunch your----.

When I did my tec course, we were taugh to flop in backwards like a falling tree
What do you call that entry? Sounds good for boat diving. Does it have a catchy name?;)

When I did my tec course, we were taugh to flop in backwards like a falling tree, instead of giant stride and we used 1" crotch straps with no problems.

That entry is not much fun when the deck of the boat is 7' above the water.;)

Both my wife and I use a 2" strap on our Apeks WTX Harness systems.

i've found that if I'm wearig very little wetsuit, then I generally have very little air in the wings, and therefore I can happily skip the crotch strap.

When I've got a thick suit on, suit compression is considerable, I have a lot more air in the bc and under these conditions, the crotch strap improves comfort.

(Is there nothing that is not different about cold and warm water diving?)

Is that suit compression and BC air volume the reason why people need crotch straps? (Never worn one or even understood the reason for a crotch strap, never even seen one worn.)

two inches, same as the harness webbing. My harness is made from 2" stiff webbing, the strap is the same width but made from the softer webbing.

It's the same size so "D" rings and standard hardware fit correctly.

While some divers need a wide crotch strap, others can get by with a narrower one.
