For those that use a crotch strap, is there a general consensus on the most comfortable width? I saw a photo of a diver in board shorts doing a giant stride with crotch strap, and it was nauseating.:shakehead:
Most of my diving involves a fairly thick wetsuit, but I also like wearing just a bathing suit in warm water.

Thanks,
Ben

two inches, same as the harness webbing. My harness is made from 2" stiff webbing, the strap is the same width but made from the softer webbing.

It's the same size so "D" rings and standard hardware fit correctly.

I concur on 2". I started with a 1" but it, uh, didn't always stay in place...

The other nice thing about 2" crotch straps is they are usually made with a wide loop that you slip onto the waist strap. At least some 1" crotch straps don't have a wide enough loop so you have to use a quick-release to attach and detach it for every dive.

When I did my tec course, we were taugh to flop in backwards like a falling tree, instead of giant stride and we used 1" crotch straps with no problems.
Thats a serious rule 6 violation...

;)

It doesn't matter how wide it is.

It matters how soft it is...

Doc

Hi Ben,

Having used both the 1" and the 2", I prefer the 2" from the stand point that I feel it doesn't move around as much and if there was to be any pressure, it would be displaced better because it is wider.

With the crotch strap adjusted properly, you really should not feel it. Make sure it's not too tight or else it will pull down you BP or BC to much and put it in the wrong position where you might not be able to reach valves or manifolds.

Cheers

I use a 1" strap. Being a lady, I've got to save some dignity:blinking:. It can be awkward enough as it is:blush:. I leave it rather loose & really don't even realize it's there during the dive. I have a 2" one also, but just haven't gotten the guts to use it:shakehead:.

i've found that if I'm wearig very little wetsuit, then I generally have very little air in the wings, and therefore I can happily skip the crotch strap.

When I've got a thick suit on, suit compression is considerable, I have a lot more air in the bc and under these conditions, the crotch strap improves comfort.

I find the two inch works best. If you have it adjusted properly, you'll never feel it. :palmtree: Bob
