Okay... This is a little embarassing but here goes...
I just got back from Cozumel. I did 19 dives while I was there. I was using a rental BP&W combo with a 2" crotch strap. I was wearing a 1 mm skin since the water was plenty warm.

I started diving on Sunday. On Wednesday evening I was lying in bed and I rolled over. Basically I felt the sharpest pain I have ever felt (like someone had kicked me in the *BLEEPS* emanate from that exact region. At first I though I had just pulled or sprained something and it would go away. I had no residual or ongoing pain but over the next few days I noticed that if I put pressure on my scrotum the wrong way I would get a sharp pain.

I waited a week after I got back and although the pain was not constant it was still present if I put pressure on the "wrong" way. I went to go see a doctor. He does not think it is a hernia or anything else and the best guess is that I somehow bruised or twisted something with the crotch strap. I am going for an ultrasound tomorrow.

Basically I am wondering if anyone has ever heard of somehtign like this happening before with a crotch strap BP wings setup?

Never encountered this problem, and reading your story, I dont know whether to laugh or cry. my condolences to your boys!

Did you notice it was tight while you were wearing it?

it does give a new meaning to your user name...

but, seriously... i hope it's nothing serious and it's just temporary discomfort

I'd like to try em out next time I am down there.

When I dove a BP I removed the crotch strap when I dove in the tropics due to conformt (I did not even wear a 1mm at the time - just t-shirt and shorts). I also made neoprene "pads" for the shoulder straps by wrapping old neoprene around the straps and fixing the ends together with neoprene cement. Maybe you could do that on your crotch strap next time?

BTW - now I just use my Zeagle w/o any crotch strap. Love it...

Sorry to hear about the guys, in the UK I had heard of problems like this in training, when we used to use the ABLJ they are collar like, http://www.apvalves.com/Prdtsfrmset.html
It was found that if to loose the strap ripped up due to the air in the ablj and got the lads, if to tight the lift of the jacket verses the drop of the weight of the diver left the guys in the middle of the energy.
This sounds serious, I am sorry.

Hopefully the ultrasound will reveal the source of your discomfort. I seriously doubt that it was caused by the crotch strap.

Just got back from the ultrasound---I'm having a boy!!! Sorry could not resist

All results were negative so there are no lumps, fluid or any twisting (hurts just saying it) of the blood or other vessels. The best guess is that I did bruise or somehow compress "the boys" and the only thing I can think of that did that is the crotch strap.

I didn't have it really tight, or at least not that I noticed, but I will be really careful in the future.

Someone asked about renting BP+W. I got them from a local (No. Virginia) SCUBA shop that only sells BP and back inflate BC's. They are actually a great shop and when I bought a BP from them they deducted the cost of the rental from the price. I ended up getting a hybrid system with an OMS backplate, a Halcyon wing and STA, and a Diverite pocket. Looks like I am going to be the NASCAR driver of divers. Of course I will porbably just exacto knife off all the logos I can anyway :)

Oh.. and as for the nickname that is WAY to unfortunate a coincidence.
