hey everyone,
I am fairly new to diving but am looking for a couple of reg sets. Iam definitely buying the Sea Elite tech X reg, but I was going to buy another set. The two i am choosing from are the Cressi Sub Ellipse Titanium and the Mares MR-12 rebel. The problem is that I can't decide which one.

thanks for the help

I love my cressi sub ellipse titanium. Breathes like heaven. But it's not recommended to be used with nitrox mixes 40% or greater. This isn't a problem if you're ever using those mixes. I dive in warm water, dunno how it is in cold water conditions. Hope that helps!

I would not touch mares with a barge pole, bad after sale service, hell for maintenance, although nice design, rather non standard parts inside it.

I dive with the Ellipse titanium (thanks cressi :D), but i must admit that the titanium is a "look nice" thing on it, nothing will reduce the weight with the thin layer they put on, but they have come out with a black & blue cover which can be quite nice too :).

I have put my reg with the piston 1st stage with rotating upper part, for the swivel. Simple to do the maintenance (which is a must for a center, & for myself on my own stuff).

For the nitrox part, it's just a question of grease used, so you can always see with your dealer to get it oxygen Cleaned during the next service, now check with cressi for the warantee on this one.

thanks guys heres's a few more. oceanic gt3 vs. cressi sub ellipse titanium vs. mares mr-12 rebel vs. cressi sub air tech diaphram vs. cressi sub air plus diaphram

I was under the impression that the air tech and air plus were the same? I liked the flow better in the ellipse compared to the air tech. I also liked how compact the ellipse is compared to the tech. But I found the exhaust bubbles more noticeable for the ellipse (YMMV for this point). Best bet is to try them and see which one you like. That's what I did so now I can post about it on SB. :)

Can't comment on the oceanic or mares., sorry.

ladaniel,
The Mares MR12 Rebel is an awesome regulator for the price. MR12 1st stage has been in the line for many many years and has proven to be a great performer! It is a balanced diaphragm 1st stage and has our patented DFC on the primary LP port for your 2nd stage, (more consistent breathing). 4LP ports and 2HP ports. The 2nd stage has our patented VAD (vortex assist design) this offers a natural feel of breathing, allows us to have a self adjusting (no knobs to worry about/fewer parts, fewer things to break) regulator. All you have to do is put it in your mouth and go dive. Mesh grid design on the front to prohibit free flow in strong currents in addition to creating slightly better performance than a reg without.

If purchased in the U.S. it will come with a lifetime parts replacement policy.

Anyhow this is just a quick synopsis of some of the technologies in our regs including the Rebel. I know you won't be disappointed.

The GT3 has the most bang for buck, performance and features.
Ya know what however?, you won't be disappointed with any of them.

Has anyone noticed? Seems like every working pro in sight is using Mares these days. I assume they are not giving them away, so there must be something to this.

You must be kidding musn't you ??? :) or are you a mares dealer ? :)

PS : For my remarks of my prior post, the after sale issues etc concern europe and not the US zone, as each country or region has it's own policy on after sale, guarantees etc.
