(I would put in a crack about not being a Republican, but that would get censored :D )

You're not?!!??:11: I am so crushed!!

H2Andy:
actually, Lawyers are highly evolved creatures, having started life as dung beetles

only SLIGHTLY less impressive than system admins, who started life as dung beetles with acne

I am glad that you managed to learn SOMETHING from all of those years of college. I was beginning to think that it was wasted on you.

NetDoc:
You know... the really sad part? Man loves rules... God loves the heart. The Bible clearly states that whatever you did to the least of these my brothers, you did also to me. God doesn't really care about your denomination or what version of the scriptures you read. He wants you to love his people: all of them!

Jesus was quite clear that there are but two rules to live by: Love God and Love Everyone Else. All this talk of damnation just doesn't sound like love to me. Jesus only seemed to condemn those who wanted to condemn others. Hmmnnnnn, something to ponder in that. Those who want to be with God will be. Those who don't, won't. Me? I am all for lending a helping hand (I would put in a crack about not being a Republican, but that would get censored :D ), to those who want it whenever I can and when I am able to do so.

Loving others is good but Jesus said a good deal more than that. John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

Matthew 10:32, 37 "Therefore, whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven. Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but the sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a mans enemies will be those of his own household. He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.

John 3:16, 18 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

Saved from what? A gospel that leaves out damnation may be very appealing but eliminates the need for the cross.

But Mike...

is it better to confess Jesus with our actions or only with words?

Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' NIV

Good tree - good fruit. Words certainly aren't enough but our actions aren't enough either.

Haven't been by this thread in a while... here's my thought for the day (lifted from somewhere, but I can't remember where :) )

The second most preposterous proposition that man has ever devised is that there is some Supreme Being who designed and directs the universe. The most preposterous is that there isn't.

Rick

on that note rick......

people say it is rediculous to think that life could start from "slime". the god camp says that it is impossible for life, as complex as it is now, to have started without someone creating it.

ok, then who created the creator? how could such a being, with all that power exist, without someone or something creating him?

You have just violated the rules of religion. *short circuits*

how exactly do you show you love Jesus more than your father, mother, son, or daughter?

Rick Murchison:

well, that sounds good, but it doesn't mean anything. one of the two statements must be false. in which case, the other one isn't preposterous at all.

Wow, It took 2 days but I finally read every single post. I have enjoyed reading many of them as they were quite interesting.
