HK182:
how do you keep them in an aquarium? are they easy to keep and feed?

Dude, two individuals of the same sex will mate....They're the cockroaches of the sea... You can feed them anything and all they do is multiply.....

I'm waiting for summer then I'm going to Lake Tahoe to fill a few bags.:D

For as much as they sell in TN, I might consider partially subsidizing my scuba habbit! At least pay for air. I have kept them in awuarioums as well. My biggest problem was them getting out (have no idea how) and they would crawl three rooms away, hide behind something, dry out ond stink

Boiled crawfish, corn, potatoes. Big time in La. and Texas. Cajun spices. Mon, shy, eat the tail and suck dem heads.

The river in Sacramento is loaded with the critters, try downstream of the old powerhouse by Folsom.

You can raise crawfish in a aquarium?? Hmmmm, thinking I have to get me one and some crawfish and have me a old fashioned crawfish boil this time next year :D

Just to clarify, the powerhouse is on the american river. Bob, do you mean downstream from the powerhouse under the new bridge or directly in front of the powerhouse. I looked the spot over monday and the current is still a bit fast, but yeah its loaded with 'dads. I'm waiting till july to jump in there. Then the water is at least a bit warmer. Its drawn out of the bottom of folsom lake and its cool year round.

I'm familiar with the section of the american river below folsom. i've made many a dive there. the dolphin dive club of sacramento holds an "inland lobster feed" and b-b-Q in june each year. we shuttle divers up river as far as we can. drop them off, and they drift dive with the current back down to the "rainbow" bridge, or on down to negro bar st. park, where we cook the crawdads and b-b-q. we have a great time. ken

I first heard of crawdad diving in this post http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=32929
It's a long post, but has links to recipes for crawdads, as well as directions to "the best spot" (near Sacramento) to get them. Ironiclly, I have yet to dive the spot mentioned in the post. The parking lot has always been closed. Rather than carry all our gear back to the suggested spot, my brother and I jumped in as close to wherever we could park. Fortunately, the mudbugs hadn't read any posts about where they were supposed to live. It seems the whole river/lake is crawling with them. I'm really not a great hunter, but even I was able to gather a bunch of critters.
