Cozumel Tower?

Does anyone know what the tower is (was) that was going up by the south cruise ship pier? I was there in February and this big tower was going up, now (past weekend) it looks like it is coming down. They are building another tower close to there and the taxi driver said it was going to be a TV tower, but did not have a clue what the other tower was. By the way, no sea lice this past weekend.

It was to be an observation tower. There was even talk of adding bungee jumping.

I don't think that a lighthouse is what is going up there, since there is already a new lighthouse very close by, just a little north of Lorena. It replaced the old Punta Langosta lighthouse in town that was displaced by the abomination of a cruise ship shopping mall that took that name, but to which some of us refer as Puta Langosta. My first Spanish pun...

Anyway, when I was on Cozumel a couple of weeks ago there was just a spire there with a crane atop it. It is very tall; we could see it from the mainland.

The crane on top is taking it down.

I was told why they were taking it down, but can no longer remember.

I live part time on coz. Actually more off the island then on. But yes it is an observation tower and yes it is coming down. I do not know why.

Thanks for the information. Now that I think of it, I should not have asked. I should have gone right back to Cozumel on a fact finding mission and just reported back to the board.
