Cozumel Reefs

If the reefs aren't up to par for you, be sure to ferry over to Playa and do the Cenotes. They are amazing and cost as much to dive as the reefs.

not sure i'd agree with the last part of that sentence - i'd guess it depends who you're diving with in both places. our two-tank small, fast boat dives on coz were $53 (add-ons to our package); the cenotes trip was $100 for two dives (transportation and snacks included). but i do agree that the cenotes are amazing. they are incredibly mesmerizing and absolutely shouldn't be missed!

Judging from the number of pictures taken by Bob, Cheng and my husband, it may be WEEKS before they're edited . . .

I wasn't here before the hurricane, but I'd say the assessment that the deeper reefs weren't damaged much and the shallower ones took a hit is accurate. You can see where the sand has drifted over (although honestly, I think it's pretty) and some broken areas of coral. I thought it was fascinating to see the new corals starting, like flowers coming up through spring snow. There were certainly plenty of fish, and we saw several nurse sharks and a number of turtles, and some big barracuda. Paradise as a night dive was a treasure trove of lobsters and octopus.

It may not be the same diving, but it was still very good diving.

But the cenotes are another world altogether

oh, hey lynne, i didn't know you guys went with bob and cheng. i bet that was a fun trip! (probably next to impossible to NOT have fun with bob.) i know what you mean about the number of pics. it took a concerted effort for me to get some of mine up after we got back, and i doubt i've even posted 1/3 of them to flickr yet. but i hope you guys will post a few teasers soon, and i look forward to hearing your trip reports.
