Not close enough
My wife and I are planning a trip to Cozumel after the first of the year. She does not dive but I do so I would like to find an all-inclusive resort with a dive center on grounds for dive trips. Can anyone make some recommendations?

Dave,
I am also thinking of going down in March and have been looking at the Palace for the last few days. It looks very nice and it is supposed to be new. Is it a close walk to downtown? I have a wife that dives but not full time. :( It is nice to have things for her to do when I am diving.
How are the reef conditions? Have the sand damaged areas started to come back? Is there a dive shop on the resort premises? Sorry to hit you with so many questions.
Thanks for your help. Any info is much appreciated.:D

Bill,

Yes, the Palace is close to town, maybe 2-3 blocks. The reefs are coming back and saw more fish than the previous three times ago. In fact, we did Palancar Shallows and it was untouched by Wilma. You will not be disappointed in the diving.

They do have an on-site dive house, Aqua Safari, but we like to use Dive Paradise. They pick you up at the hotel dock around eight, take a fast boat out for two dives and back by noon. Fast boats are the way to go. We had only three divers and one DM for the whole week. Nice having the jaccuzi to rinse your gear and then relax.

Depending on what your wife likes to do, the Palace offers amazing services and information for shopping and tourist excursions.

Excellent food, drinks, service, 24 hour room service and the softest beds in Coz. Thats why we keep going back.

The only thing lacking at the Palace is a beach, but they do have platforms for snorkling. But then again the pool is very nice.

I will post a review of my trip in a few days once I have gotten caught up at work.

Hope this helps.

Fiesta Americana is not strictly an all-inclusive resort, but it offers an all-inclusive option which is a pretty good deal. It is close enough to town to make the trip in reasonable. The on-site dive operation, Dive House, is very good. I have been there several times and enjoyed it. You will get lots of recommendations around here. There are a number of good places to stay and good dive ops to use, so there probably is no one "best" answer.

I'm in the same situation as you, wife is a land lover. I will be there Jan 12-17 alone and staying in town.

Both of us are going Feb 11-18 and staying at Reef Club. I found RT to Cancun for $288 but out of Indianapolis on Frontier. I figure the 3 hour drive to Indy is worth $400 savings.

I dive with www.bottomtimedivers.net Raul is owner/dive master and picks me up on the Reef Club pier.

Okay, after some research here and other places I have narrowed it down to either the Iberostar or the Reef Club. Can anyone think of any positives or negatives of one over the other? This is my first time to Cozumel so I would appreciate any opinions. I just started diving and my wife prefers to just relax or snorkel.

We were at Scuba Club last week. When we got back Sunday, we compared Cozumel notes with our friends who also dive. They have stayed at the Reef Club. One of my friend's coments was that "she had never eaten so many hot dogs in her life." The food wasn't good and hot dogs were about the best thing on the menu. Other than the food, I don't know if she had any other complaints. She also said the dive operation from the Reef Club picks up other divers from the cruise ships.
