Cozumel photo theme.....C-53 wreck!

wreck penetration - the C-53 in Cozumel.... I thought it would be a problem for some people also but really it is not. All boat diving in Cozumel is lead by a DM. The DM knows the wreck inside out and every dive shop uses the same path through the wreck. The day we went with SCC, we were divided into 2 groups of 4 divers per DM. There is no reason that it would be unsafe in such a small group. Other dive shops might do it with more divers, but since it was prepped for divers with lots of exit points, I still think it is a safe wreck for even beginners.robin

The real issue is getting divers use to doing these type of dives without advanced training. It's an overhead in my book clean or not and has to be treated as one.

Beautiful pics. I heard that the wreck is on the east side and can be a difficult dive depending on the conditions. Im going in April and want to dive it. Anyone see this as an advanced dive? We both have very good buoyancy control and gas management.

The C53 is on the west side in front of Chankanaab. It is a PIA if the current is strong. Not technical or advanced in my simple mind, just was some hard swimming when I was there.

Sitting in the head. Toilets have taken a beating since they 1st sunk it, most are pretty smashed from tanks. Sorry for the silt, it's a little tight in there with a few large people and their gear. Left to right-TVMark, Dennis and me giving the other salute

If I didn't have my flashlight on I never would have found this on the outside, as there is no red color at 100'. It really lit up with the strobes though. One of my favorite pictures I've ever taken uw:



I like the dive. I'd rather not go inside to far though. There is alot of life on the outside and I'm perfectly happy cruising around outside looking at the stuff that has grown on the ship. These are from 2009. It's amazing to me how much life there is on this thing in the relatively short time it has been down there. There is lots of stuff growing down by the propellers but I seem to have misplaced those pics from that dive...

Yes, the next overhead dive may not be as forgiving.
