The viz around Cozumel is routinely around 100 feet. When I was there a couple of weeks ago, it wasn't quite that on a couple of dives, and I was told that there was an algae bloom at Punta Sur at the time that for a while dropped the viz significantly, but for the most part, 150 foot viz is not all that uncommon.

Any reports on the Cozumel local weather? I will be there a week from today. I am thinking high in the 80's. Oh and by the way, I cant wait!!!!

Firerescueguy, take a look at Jeff's "report from the island" thread for info from this past week. Usually daytime temps this time of year are low 80's, sometimes high 70's. Evenings around 70 or low 70's. There's always the chance of a norte this time of the year and that would brings all the temps down and depending on how strong the wind is, it can make the water rough enough to close the harbor for the smaller boats. (Keeping my fingers crossed that we don't get one of those this trip!)

I also update the weather almost daily on my website on the daily dive report...sometimes I am a day or two behind.

I'll be going to Cozumel FEbruary 9-16 for diving and fun. Staying at Hotel Cozumel, diving with Dive Paradise. Does anyone know the condition of the reefs and Hotel Cozumel? I haven't been able to find it on the internet.

many post on this board about the reefs and the Hotel. In short for the most part the reefs are in good shape just a little more sand than usual in some spots. Some new or widened swim thrus to explore. Hotel Cozumel was one of the first hotels to open in November and is in good shape. Their pier is operational. Pilot Fish on this board (John) is also going to stay at your hotel next week. Look him up.
Many of us SBers are planning dinner together downtown on Sunday the 12th then hanging around the Plaza for the entertainment at 8pm.
If you want meet in front of Vista Del Mar hotel at 6:30 pm. Valwood1 is staying there and thats where we will decide the restaurant. If it's nice the wife and I will be walking past Hotel Cozumel at about 6:15 on our way to Vista Del Mar. The more the merrier.

Can "locals" join you for dinner? I really enjoyed the last SB dinner I went to!

Sally,

Of course your invited along with any others that might want to join in. I think there was mention of your service by one of the other people I've heard from, so you may get questions about those great messages I've heard you do.
We will all meet by Vista Del MAR AT 6:30PM Sunday the 12th (plenty of room to meet in the alley there) and you can suggest the restaurant!! No reservations, we will just take over the place and party. Everyone bring cameras!

Lou
