Thanks so much, with CFAR you can cancel due to weather? How does that work please?
Yes. I probably shouldn't have used the abbreviation. It's Cancel For Any Reason insurance although your provider will likely have a different name than that. It does cost more than regular insurance since the underwriter's risk profile is much higher. For me, the peace of mind is worth the extra premium.

It's my latest favorite time to visit. Prices are lower due to it being low season, less people around. Water is warm, feels like silk. It can get overcast + some rain showers but that can be a relief from the blazing sun... it doesn't take away from the warmth. I definitely pack mosquito repellent for my bod as well as mosquito repelling incense sticks for the balcony.

Hello, I hope I'm not violating any rules by resuming a thread that is one and a half years old. I'm also considering going to Cozumel/Playa del Carmen for my 40th birthday which, surprise suprise, is going to be in September. I read all your considerations about weather and I thank you all for that. I wanted to ask you a slightly different question. Since I'm a fan of big pelagics, would that be a good period to see them? Thanks in advance and sorry if I wasn't supposed to bring an old thread up, I know some boards forbid it.

The only big pelagics - as far as I know - that you might see will be whale sharks and spotted eagle rays (if they qualify). There’s someone here connected to a whale shark tour company (wish I could remember who so I could tag you) - I think the season might end in late September, but someone will know and correct me if I'm wrong. To see whale sharks you will need to go to the mainland and get an operation out of Cancun that goes to the area near Isla Mujeres.

Spotted eagle rays like the colder water and are more numerous in the winter. September is when the water is still pretty warm - but that doesn’t mean you absolutely won’t see the rays. Some stick around throughout the year - don’t know why, but makes me happy when I see them and I’m not expecting them.

I hope your 40th is spectacular! I remember being that young …. sort of. LOL!
