I usually stay in PDC but since I just started to SCUBA I want to stay in Cozumel. Going to be there 5/17-5/24 and my buddy had to cancel so I am going solo. I plan on diving mostly mornings and would like something with a little bit of nightlife nearby..just a bar that might have sports on tv and casual hang out.
Only requirements are clean rooms and a pool....would like ocean view.

Any suggestions?

Going solo you want to be in town for the night life and keep costs to a minimum. You definately want to be diving and booking with Tres Pelicanos dive center and going with one of their stay and dive packages. I've priced everything every which way for years and years and since we started diving with 3P's they had the best dive and stay deals for the Casa Mexicana (which we've been staying at for 14 years now) or its sister hotels in town (The Colonial and the Bahia Suites) that still get you the massive breakfast buffet included which is served at the Casa. Read my reviews of the Casa and 3P's on tripadvisor. I would personally recommend the Casa. The place is spotless and if you book through 3P's as we have done, you can get a great "city view" room that offers ocean views without paying the delux ocean view price you'll see online. Jeannie at 3P's can usually get the southern facing balcony rooms at the casa that give you views of the water all the way down to the southern cruise ship pier. Look for the 4th and 5th floors southern city view. If you have $ to burn, go for delux ocean view and insist on top floor being rooms 501, 502, 503 & 504. Yeah, after 15 years I know the place like the back of my hand.

I usually travel solo and love Hotel Plaza Cozumel. Right in the middle of town, several bars and restaurants right around the corner, ocean view from most rooms, pool on the roof. Very clean and very affordable, and a nice breakfast included. If your dive shop of choice picks up at the downtown pier, it's just a nice 4 block walk after breakfast.

I like Casa Mexicana, location excellent, rooms large clean and comfortable, breakfast buffet is pretty good. The only downside is the "pool", which barely qualifies as a kiddie pool on steroids. If I'm in Cozumel during the hot months - June through September - I'll go elsewhere, simply to get a real live pool. Downtown, there is Hotel Plaza Cozumel, right on the Plaza, very convenient to everything, with a pool on the roof. For a slightly less expensive option, though a little more remote location (only 3 blocks back from the Plaza, still an easy walk everywhere), look into Hotel La Casona Real. Rooms are a bit smaller, but clean and quiet, and it has a pool. No ocean view, though. For a huge pool, though a longer walk to downtown, Hotel Cozumel - it has a HUGE pool, very nice rooms. Just DO NOT DO the AI option, unless you plan on drinking your money's worth. Food is terrible (though Breakfast buffet is OK, but the coffee is swill). Most dive ops will pick you up there (Dive Paradise is the house op - not my cup of tea, but it's OK), and it is not a terrible walk into downtown.

Blue Angel Resort is not bad for solo. It's small and all rooms face the water, has a restaurant and reasonable dive op. Location not bad too-- not far from city but away from the noise.

Casa Mexicana......in town, pier nearby to get picked up at, can walk to great bars and includes breakfast. Can't beat that!

If budget is a concern I would say Hotel Plaza Cozumel. Great price with a pool on the roof. Decent breakfast included but not near what you get at Casa Mexicana. Wet Wendy's is right behind the hotel. Just don't expect any mingling with other guest. The pool was nice but empty when I was there last October.

I stayed in an inside room at Suites Bahia in Feb. Price was good, great breakfast at Casa Mexicana. I prefer the Plaza for close to the same price.

In April I stayed in an inside room at Casa Mexicana. Almost twice the price as the others but still a great value for what you get. The pool is kind of a joke as others have mentioned. The room was much nicer than the other two hotels I stayed at. Almost too easy to take a long nap in the afternoon. The room also came with an iron, hair dryer and bath tub that were not used.

I have stayed a couple of times at Hotel Cozumel and it was very diver friendly. Lockers on their pier to clean and store your gear. Like someone else said Dive Paradise is their House Dive Operator. It is hit or miss with them. In my experience they took me to very nice but beginner sites. Since I was a beginner that was fine. If I stayed there again I would see about one of the many different, but good, dive operators pick me up at Hotel Coz's pier. I can safely say I would never again stay at Hotel Barracuda...poorly maintained and flooded with cruise ship crews when they are in port.

Thanks for the replies..I will look at those mentioned. Budget is under $200 a night so it looks like there are many options. Plan on diving at least 4-5 times so the diver friendly hotels are first choice.
