Well we've got the plane tickets. Fiesta Americana has a reservation in my name and I've talked to Christi from Blue XT about the dates and we're just about settled in that department. Anyone else going to be in Cozumel Dec 30th through Jan 6th. So far it's my girlfriend, a friend from college, and myself going down but we might end up with a few more before all is said and done.

This will be the first time down there so I'm looking forward to it. Christi mentioned that there are very very few charters that go out on New Years day. Does anyone know if the dive shops themselves are open? I can always content myself with some shore dives in the afternoon if I can get some tanks from somewhere.

How do I get one of those countdown timers in my post? I want to depress myself with how far away this is....

The counter setup is down at the bottom of your user profile.

This question came up last winter, and the upshot is that NYD is a holiday for them; the dive ops are closed.

Thanks! Maybe I can talk the dive shop out of a tank the day before new years to use for shore diving the next day.

Chances are very very slim if not ziltch that the Dive House ops at the Fiesta Americana will rent out a tank while they're closed. We spent last christmas down at the F/A and if the dive op is closed, they don't rent out tanks, even for a night dive from shore. Somebody even tried to bribe the counter clerk, (who did take the bribe) but when the manager found out the employee got rather chewed out.

It was like pulling teeth to even get them to rent us a $6 tank of air during normal day light hours!

You'll like the Fiesta though, great all-around place, as long as your room isn't right by the pool due to noise from the pool and PA sound system.

We had no problems what-so-ever getting shore diving tanks at Fiesta Americana/Dive House. We would come back from our morning 2 tank dive and ask for a couple of tanks to do shore dives. They gave them to us, no questions asked. We were even able to put them in one of their lockers (we used our own locks). Not sure how it would work if they were to be closed the next day. However, it should be no problem on regular days. We stayed there 3 times in 2004 (February, May and December) and used Dive House all 3 times.....very pleased with their operation! Nice boats, nice divemasters...great dives! We are staying at The Grand this time (April 30) and using Blue XT Sea....can't wait!!!

Hope this helps! You'll have a blast at FA!!!
