Cozumel divers - what camera are you using these days?

Canon SL1 and a single strobe. It's about as compact as you can get with a DSLR. That said, I don't know if I'm going to take my camera down to Coz anymore. The currents are just strong enough where trying to take quality photos is a frustrating exercise most of the time.

I am guessing you are asking me for my husband, Ron..... he has been using a Canon 450D camera with a Sea& Sea housing, strobes, focus light, etc. Editing RAW he uses Elements 7.0 I think.

I have a Canon 500D/T1i that has the exact same form factor as the 450D. I'd be perfectly willing to trade my S110 and housing for his 450D setup. Even trade. I think this is definitely a win-win.

Take your camera to Colombia Shallows. In many dives there over 25+ years of diving Cozumel I have never seen the current there be more than a very gentle flow, and it's very shallow (30' or so max) so there is plenty of natural light. The coral formations there are beautiful and there is plenty of life.

Well, he looked over everything suggested here, thanks everyone, and has decided to go with the Olympus TG-5. He is thinking it is a better all around deal for him as he wants to take it hiking, something we do more than diving lately, and since it is shockproof, he is a bit more confident with it on the rocky mountain trails than the Canon. I hadn't realized he wanted it for both situations, now I know.

I will post photos of camera and also photos taken with it when I can, just to share.

Take your camera to Colombia Shallows. In many dives there over 25+ years of diving Cozumel I have never seen the current there be more than a very gentle flow, and it's very shallow (30' or so max) so there is plenty of natural light. The coral formations there are beautiful and there is plenty of life.

Columbia Shallows gets a lot of negative press, I think people like deep dives for the sake of being deep; but it is absolutely gorgeous and you can get some LONG dives there. One of my favorite places to go.

Yup, when we were there I was able to get some nice video, as well as we saw a huge nurse shark in 25' deep water sleeping under a ledge. First dive was at Columbia Deep, which I skipped. Used to love that dive too, but not this time. Just sat on boat and relaxed (another nice thing about SCC boats, covered and big enough to get up and walk around).

video quality isn't the best due to weather, not the camera....it rained every day, and we had TS Nate hit that week a few days later. It was an exciting trip, to say the least.

Lovely video! I haven't seen a splendid toadfish out of his home before.

Really makes me want to go diving (I'm not right now for some medical issues- hence why I'm sending my husband to Cozumel this summer without me.) I like the idea of hanging on the boat for dive #1 then just doing dive #2 (I don't go below 75 feet, for different medical issues); but I'm too cheap, so I feel like if I pay for two tanks, I want to dive 2 tanks!

Columbia Shallows and Paradise are probably 2 of my favorite dives in CZM, but alas I like to take photos. Wife and I are only 2 people on a boat so we're still at the mercy of where everyone else wants to go which typically goes something like Palancar something, aka deep and limited light, followed up by something like Cedral with a ripping current.

I'm not complaining, just not super motivated to take my rig down there any longer. It's a lot of work for usually less than stellar photo opportunities.
