I will be visiting Cozumel in Feb 2006 and wanting some info on Papa Hogs. I have dove with Del Mar Aquatics in cozumel before but, i was thinking of triing a different dive shop.

We have dove with them 5 trips over last 5 years and love them. Very customer oriented group - Mike and Margaret are the best - they have 6 or 7 boats, most of them 6 packs, you dive in small groups according to dive experience and where you want to go. Great little restaurant there at the shop also!

Check out our website for trip reports and pictures. My website We didn't put a trip report up for our last trip (Aug 2004) but we did spend a week there diving with them and had another great time! I know they lost their pier in the hurricane, but they are still operating - I just think the boats pick you up at hotel dock or main pier. Call them to find out details.

Blue Angel Divers is who I use. Small operation but very friendly and the LISTEN TO WHAT I WANT TO DO. I don't et that from alot of places. Its their backyard, but Blue Angel lets me play safely on their swingset without hesitation.

I have dove at Cozumel 5 different times so far i like Dive with Martin the best, have a good time.

We dove with Papa Hogg's in Jan. 2005. We had a good time with them. If you want personal service go with Albatross. Baruk and Rita have two fishing boats and one "fast" dive boat that holds a max of 8 people. They'll also take you to a dive site to the North if you ask them. We dove with them in Sept. 2005. Hopefully their boats survived the hurricane.

I stay at the Occidental Grande (which got damaged by the hurricane and should be open by Feb) and dive on-site with Dive Palancar.. always great service and no problems. I think it would be worth the taxi ride to dive with them (assuming they are back in business now).

My 2cents worth.

Happy diving! Amazing viz and sea life!

I'm surprised that I am the first to say it, Blue XTSea Diving is the op we used when we were there is Dec. Christi and her crew are great and we'll be using them whenever we go to Coz (I think a June trip may be in order, after all it will have been 6 months!!)
Search the board and you'll find many glowing recommendations;)

A frequently asked question on this board is "what's the best dive op?" It's really the wrong question; most of the ops on Cozumel are quite good at what they do, it's just that they offer different services. A better question would be "which dive ops provide the type of experience that I am looking for?"

Some variables to consider:
Large or small boat?
Caters to novices, expert, or somewhere in between?
Set or flexible schedule?
Convenient signup/pickup to where you are staying?
Keeps/cleans your gear or not?
Economy or premium price?

Cheers,
