I'll be in Cozumel during the week above with a LDS. Can't wait to get out of this arctic cold up here in NY!!!

Looking to meet up with anyone from the board that will be there during this time. I'll be staying at Hotel Cozumel.

Any MUST SEE or MUST DO things that anyone wants to list here would also be appreciated.

Hey, John, where'd you get that cool countdown timer? I tried lifting and pasting the source code, but that didn't work for me.

Try to make it over to do a cenote dive on the mainland. It was one my all time favorite dives.
Devil's Throat is not a must do dive in my opinion. It is interesting and everyone has heard about it but you have limited bottom time. If you are diving on air you will probably go in to deco for a few minutes as you are exiting the tunnel. Everyone has their own favorite dives and it would be a shame to miss Columbia Deep, Columbia Shallows, Palancar Gardens, Palancar Bricks, San Francisco, Santa Rosa or other great sites for this. Talk to other diver's and the DMs about the sites and what you like.
The restaurant recommendations on this site are nearly endless but the best meal I had was at Especias on Calle 5 Sur and 10th. The other diners raved about the Red Snapper and the Grouper. I tried the Filet Mignon and it was fantastic. I must have been lucky with the piece of meat I was served because if it was always that good the lines to get in would be around the block.

Wish I was going, need anyone to haul your gear :crafty:
Haven't been there yet so can't offer any advice. Hopefully someone will come along with some tips. Have a safe trip and post a report when you return.

Hi John,
Everybody has given you GREAT dive info already - but you will be here (well at least PART of the time you are here) is our Carnival!!! It's Mardi Gras time! Dancing in the streets- parades etc...! Feb 9-16 (and the BEST days are the last few days) It simply shocks me more each year how eleborate Carnival is here - everybody thinks "how good could it be on a small island" well let me tell you - you are in for a treat!!!! Be prepared for lots of fun both in & out of the water!!!!
Enjoy!

Mardi Gras is Feb 8th. Why is Cozumel Carnaval a week later?

I'll be in Lafayette, LA, for Mardi Gras. Laissez les bon temps rouler!

Nice counter! I agree with the previous post, make sure to check out the local events at Carnaval! cozumelmycozumel.com has a great schedule posted you may want to check out!

I also suggest checking out some of the local eateries and such, you will be glad for it. Poke around the board, you'll see plenty of recommendations!

It's Mexico - everything is late!!! No actually THAT is NOT the reason!!!!! We have goverment elections on the 6th (dry law in effect, and how can you have Mardi Gras & Dry Law at the same time!!!???) SO.........the just simply made it later! It is still GRAND, ELABORATE & TATOALLY SUPRISING at the size of the floats as well as the costumes, If you have never seen it here - GOTTA DO IT!!!!!!
I will post images on our website from last year (it will be on the events page) so you can see what I mean. Probably can't get to it today(gotta go diving!!) - but tomorrow for sure!

If you don't have a dive operator yet, email raul_platas@yahoo.com right now. I'll be there 2-6 thru 2-10 short week but diving with raul 7-8-9 small fast boat 6 max and you do your computer and air. some dives 1:20min if your good. Sunday nites doings in the plaza from 8-10pm. they are gearing up for start of carnival in a week. I was there 2 weeks ago and the main street was still ripped up but they say paving was about to start and should be done next week. I'll be south at the reef club with my dive widow getting sunburned.

Thanks for all the responses.

I may have to cancel my trip....some health problems popped up for my wife. Next week is really just a monitoring stage, nothing good or bad can happen, but she definitely can't travel to Mexico.

I'll lose the entire cost of our trip due to the late cancellation, but she's such a trooper she is fighting with me to go. Meaning, she threatened to go pack my gear and personally drag me to the airport while she stays home.

Even so, I don't think I'll be going at this point...
