1. I thought that Columbia Deep and Paseo del Cedral were hammered by Wilma, the latter in particular where the coral looked at if someone had dropped a dumptruck full of sand on it. Palancar Horsehoe seemed in much, much better shape.
2. Great weather on Friday and Saturday, but blown out by heavy winds from El Norte on Sunday. I wonder how in the world the large-ish boat full of divers that went past the Rock n' Java about 11:30, heading north, ever survived. We're talking serious wind and wave action here.
3. Great dinner on Sunday with Lou (thanks for putting it together), Nancy, Bruce, Jeannie, Michelle, Rick, Marg, David, Sally and John at Sonora Grill. We really enjoyed meeting all of you. Thanks, Sally, for getting the owner to treat us to a beer.
4. I was reminded again that we should be especially careful when diving in current. Two divers from another boat surfaced, sans safety sausage etc., near our boat at Palancar Horseshoe. Our op called their boat, which was a good half mile or more down current North of us; there's just no way that the two could have been seen by their boat if our boat had not called. I wonder how the two got so far from their group -- or vice versa.
5. Pedro at Blue XT Sea is a fine divemaster, as is Alison of ScubawithAlison, and both are just as nice as can be.
6. Many thanks to the king of Carnaval(?), who, despite being out in a nasty, chilly wind at 9pm, graciously re-donned his huge gold helmet (that must have weighed one hundred pounds) so my bride could take a photo of him. And he smiled the entire time, too.
If Coz Sally or Christi or someone else in Coz sees this note and knows the guy, pat him on the back.
7. Overall, San Miguel looked pretty good, though the trees are pretty spotty.
