I don’t know, but they provide it free of charge when you arrive.

I’m leaving for Bonaire Saturday. I’m already bringing supplies for a friend stuck in quarantine at the Marriott there. Should you be unlucky at test time, let me know and I’ll add to the larder.

FYI, it sounds like a good idea to stock up on cash before you test. My friend said he’s able to order food in online, but has to pay in cash and is running low.

Good questions. Was he already staying at the Marriott, or did he move there specifically to quarantine? I would also be interested in knowing if he has travel insurance that pays for quarantine expenses and additional airline ticket costs. Every travel policy I have looked seemed unclear whether testing positive (yet asymptomatic, i.e., no professionally diagnosed "illness") before returning to the US would be covered under Trip Interruption and, if so, how many days of expenses, and what expenses are covered.

It was one of his kids that came up positive, and is asymptomatic. Quarantine is 5 to 10 days. I’m guessing that if you test negative after 5, you’re good to go. If not, it’s ten days after positive test (which I think is the CDC guideline for asymptomatic positive test).

He’s at the Marriott because everyplace else on the island was booked. I can’t help with the insurance question.

Thanks for the info. I had wondered if other countries followed their own protocols or the CDC guidelines for Americans testing positive abroad.

Per the CDC guidelines retesting if positive is not recommended. As of this week isolation is 5 days with no fever for 24 hours (without fever reducers) and symptoms better but should continue to mask an additional 5 days.

Time for quarantine for exposure is none if fully vaccinated (now defined as vaccinated within 6 months/2 for J&J or 2 doses plus booster if more than 6 months) but mask for 10 days. If unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated the quarantine is 5 days plus 5 days masked. If not possible to quarantine then mask for 10 days.

Retesting for exposure is day 5.

I'm not asking you so much putting the question to all participants in this thread, but what happens when one tests positive on Bonaire? I think I recall reading that the health authorities are notified, but I'm not certain. I wouldn't count on all "other countries" even keeping track of who is quarantining. If I take a Binax Now test--one of those teleproctored tests--and the result is positive, do they alert the Bonaire health authorities? Or is quarantining on Bonaire for the 5 days that the US apparently requires for entry by air essentially on the honor system?

Wouldn't you have to re-test and be able to show a negative result in order to board a flight for the US?

The BinaxNow test specifically says if you get a positive to test again, to make sure it is not a false positive.

You know, I read a gazillion threads about testing, and have yet to read a report of a false positive. They must be quite rare.
