well since gc is not going to be repaired in time for our cruise the middle of next month royal cribbean is going to costa maya instead. i did a search and read most of the post about the area but there is not much in the way of who to use to get some diving in. who did ya'll use and would you use them again. i would like to have an idea and maby reservations made before we leave.
thanks,

I recently dove extensively in Akumal and the surrounding cenotes with Akumal Dive Shop. They were flexible and laid back. I recommend Luis for a DM.

What the cruise ships call "Costa Maya" is actually the village of Majahual. It's about 4-1/2 hours drive south of Cancun and way far from Akumal. If you look at a map of Quintana Roo you will see a peninsula just north of the border with Belize. Xcalak is near the southern tip of the peninsula and Majahual is near the northern end of it.

There are some local dive operations in Majahual but I'm really more familiar with Xcalak. (XTC is a good dive operation there.) Depending on how long you are in port, it may prove too long a haul to truck down to Xcalak for a dive.

The prime dive attraction in the area is Chinchorro Banks but that is 1-1/2 to 2 hours to the nearest point to Majahual. I've done some good local diving in Xcalak but never been in Majahual. I would imagine you will find similar local diving in Majahual as you do in Xcalak and it is certainly worth getting wet there.

i do not know, the cruise we are going on is taking us to costa maya, thats all the info that they have posted, instead of caymen since the island is in no shape for much of anything after ivan.

Just to reafirm what Mediakzar posted, Costa Maya is south of Akumal/Playa/Cancun a few hundered km's.

Now if you are talking about the Mayan Riviera... give me a call :)

we will be in cozumel the next day and wanting to finally get in the water. i think the ship arrives there at 9:00. can you help us out with a couple of dives.

As per our email. I will cater to your schedule. I am looking forward to divining with you.

I was at Xcalak a few weeks ago. They told me there that when the cruise ship docks at Majahual, they bus everyone to a ruin that is several hours' drive from Majahual. If that is the case, you might have time to get in a dive at Xcalak. I'd contact XTC to see what they can do for you.
