I would very much like to do a spawning dive. The problem is, I've seen a wide fluctuation of dates. They vary from August 14th to September 27th. Does anyone know the actual approximate dates and who might be running charters those nights?
thanks,
chris

Actual Approximate. Is that like Civil War?
Awfully Nice?

Half Dead?
Political Promise?

Seriously, I hear that coral spawning takes place on the night of the full moon in August in Florida. But that is just an educated guess. :D

We run Coral spawning trips every year and this year the powers to be have said it will occur August 14, 15, or 16th. We get this information from the South Florida Underwater Photo Society who gets their information from a university who has gotten it right for a number of years.

In any case we are running trips, but space is limited so give us a call if you'd like to book.

Good Diving,

In the Flower Gardens it is supposed to be the 8th day after the first full moon in August. (Seriously, it is that specific) We did the liveaboard on the Spree to see it last week. Unbelievable trip. Not only did we get the unique opportunity to see the spawning (2 nights) we also got to learn about spawning from a specialist on coral that was aboard the sister ship, the Fling. They gave us 30 minute windows that each species released. The "male" brain coral smoked as the sperm released. It was followed by the 'female' egg release that looked like tiny popcorn jumping out of the coral grooves. Afterwards we moved over to Stetson and had a couple of encounters with a large manta. Apparently spawning in Curocao is in September. If you ever get the chance to go DO IT. Not only do you get to see the actual spawning, you often get to see the 'big guys' who come by to feed on everything floating in the water.
Hopefully we can get a full trip report together and up soon.
