DocVikingo:
You're most welcome, Cedric.

Personally, I have not seen nor heard mention of a case, but was able to find a published report of death from cardiac complications due to pulmonary barotrauma following rapid ascent during a seizure. It can be found at:

Hamad A, Alghadban A, Ward L. Seizure in a scuba diver. Chest. 2001;119:285-286.

Great! It could be very interesting....

Any idea where I can find a copy?

Cheers

But, I am interested in the discussion about punching the victim during the ascent to assist with venting trapped air from the lungs. Is this a good idea

No idea if it would be a good idea or not - but the instructors at the SETT tank (Submarine Escape Training Tank) over here would do that to us if they felt we were trying to hold air in instead of exhaling on our way up. I think it was to the diaphragm, in our case it was not much of a punch - just a 'reminder' And it was fun !

(SETT training included an ascent from the bottom of a 100' tank to the surface exhaling all the way - no SCUBA involved, just clipped to a rope up the centre of the tank so we couldnt go bouncing off the sides on the way up )

I seriously doubt that this can be a good idea. I've never heard of such procedure.
