I'm considering taking advantage of a great deal on a pair of used HP100s, currently configured in doubles configuration. Trouble is, I will never, ever dive doubles (though I am thinking of sidemount in the future)

Is conversion to singles just a matter of disassembly and removal of the manifold, and capping the ends of the two valves leaving me with a left and right valved pair of tanks? Or is it probable that the valves would not be usable as singles? If I have to buy a new set of singles valves it would no longer be a worthwhile deal, so I would pass on it.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, that is all you have to do. Just make sure the doubles you are purchasing are compatible with your stages. They might be 300 BAR DIN..... Also make sure you have access to the correct manifold plugs.

@CGE925 it can be as easy as draining the tanks, removing the bands, removing the manifold, and plugging the valves. IF the valves that are on there can be plugged and/or capped. Several either can't, or are hard to find the plugs for. If the tanks in question are 7/8" skinny necks from PST, it may be harder.

Singles valves are inexpensive, $20 or so used, and you can usually sell the manifold and bands for $100-$150. Real dollars, not the worthless maple leaves that you guys have up there, so it's like a million thousand loonies :p

Thanks a bunch guys for the fast response. These tanks are XS X7100s, and are identical to my only other steel tank, they are even well within hydro, only a few years old. Buying these will allow me to cull the aluminum herd once and for all, and go all steel. No issue with 300 BAR, everything is 230.

You can use the valves on singles no problem as long as you cap the isolator ports. Only issue is equipment familiarity if someone borrows your tank and isn't familiar with a left side valve. Not a huge deal, but something to consider. If it's an actual concern, buy a cheap valve for the left side and swap it out until you start sidemounting them.

. Also make sure you have access to the correct manifold plugs.

Hopefully the seller has the plugs. LP wants 20 bucks apiece for them. Yeow.

Actually, LP now has (had?) three real very knowledgeable divers in the showroom.

Excellent point about the plugs, thanks for pointing it out, I'll make sure to ask. If not, I'd have to get them locally, as shipping costs from down south would be ridiculous. DGX wants $5US, which is fine, but also wants $16US to ship up here to the great white north. By Priority Mail, they want over $30 ;o(
