I have a Suunto Favor that displays imperial units (i.e. feet, Farenheit) and am wondering if it can be switched to metric. Are they truly hardwired to one or the other, or is there a back door?

eBay and picking up an Octopus II is about your only option AFAIK. I have the Octopus II, and it's hardwired metric (the Octopus II is basically a metric Favor). One of these days I should take it along on a nitrox dive and bend it and see if it stays in gauge mode or locks up...

Bummer. That's as silly as saving two bytes by hardwiring the '19'. Unless it's really just a brilliant marketing ploy to make me buy another computer (which ain't gonna happen right now).

Two digit dates make even more sense now - saves you having to save '20' instead of '19' - surely '20' takes up more space in the memory!

Aqualung/Suunto will convert the display from one to the other for about 15.00US plus s/h as they did my Solution Alpha. Good luck

Now, I had a Tusa IQ400, and that was the same unit as the Suunto, and we were using it as a rental. When we changed the battery, it shifted from imperial to metric... Not really sure what we did... But it can be done... I've seen it. In fact then we couldn't get it to switch back to imperial. Think we sent it back to tusa and they figured it out... This was about 5 years ago.. so I really don't remember the outcome - but I know there has to be a way.
