I'll Be Getting My C- Card Come 1st Part Of May If The Ice Is Out:d Lol, But I Do Wear Glass's And I Dont Know If I Should Get Contacts Or Just Get A New Eye Exam[witch I Need Anyway] And Get The Optical Lens's In My Mask? Like I've Read In Here Clearing My Mask And All That I Dont Know What To Do. And If I Go With The Optical Route What Brands Have Work'd For You. Any Help Well Takin! By The Way This Is The Best Spot On The Net,thanks Again Mark:)

In my situation, I needed corrections to see things up close. Contacts were going to be complex, so my eye doc suggested wearing ONE contact. I don't have a problem with eye dominance, so it worked! However, I got tired of using contacts only to dive, so I opted for corrections in my mask. Luckily, I was able to get a mask with "reading" lenses in the bottom panes, so it wasn't even expensive.
Incidentally, I use the "stick on" diopter lens correctors in goggles, sunglasses and impact glasses (I work in a lab), and they work fine, too. I was even able to find them at a clearance warehouse for about four dollars a pair...a LOT less expensive than at the LDS.

I use contacts, never had a problem, even with clearing the mask. Keep your eyes closed and all will be fine when removing and replacing mask.

If you haven't had one, you'll need an eye exam anyway, since both contacts and corrective mask both require a current prescription.

The lenses in your mask are easier (you don't need to mess with contacts), however the contacts give you better vision (wider field of view) and generally clearer.

Your best bet would be to get the eye exam and ask for a trial pair of contacts (which should be free), then see if you like them.

Note that the eye exam (just like the SCUBA lessons) is best done by someone who won't rush you through, so you might want to find a private DR instead of a lens mill.

FWIW, you'll need soft disposable contacts for SCUBA, since you'll need to toss them at the end of the day to prevent eye infections. Seawater contains things that the lens solution isn't designed to kill or remove.

It depends on your prescription and tolerance for contacts. I have an astigmatism and am far sighted. A prescription mask works great from me. If you are near sighted and need help close-up, then stick-on diopter lens correctors should work fine. Call www.prescriptiondivemasks.com, they will give you good information.

This is great advice. I got certified a year and a half ago, and was still using "two-week" disposables. Not good, as I'd dive, and have to wear my contacts for a few more days. Having worn contacts for 22 years with ZERO eye infections, I got two in a six-month period. I don't have direct proof...but my thought was that the lens was keeping stuff against my eye after diving...causing irritation, etc. So, Terry's advice is spot-on. Get 1-day disposables. After your dive, take the lenses out, throw them away, and wash your eyes out. Then put in new lenses for the next dive. It worked for me.

Until I got PRK. Best money I've ever spent! No more contacts. No worries about losing my contacts, etc. Woohoo!

Good luck!

Contacts lenses are the best....I'm an eye doctor & would recommend them HIGHLY....heck, 20 years ago there was no such animal as corrective mask lenses(@ least readily available ones that hardly anyone used) & today, the CTL's we have at our disposal, are 100% better than then....Go with CTL's- hydrophilic(soft) ones that is & don't look back....& in particular, go with the AV Oasys.......

diver85, I use lenses that I change every 2 months. Should I get the daily wear ones for diving? I luckily haven't had any infections as of yet, but I agree with what webmonkey said about getting them. Your opinion?

thanks for all the advice.I KNOW NOW THAT I'LL TRY THE C-LENS'S FIRST!THANKS AGAIN MARK
