The Gulf Council is actually considering allowing fish traps again. Bottom longlines kill turtles, and so are prohibited under new regulation inside the 50 fathom curve. This will put a lot of commercial fisherman out of business. The commercial fishermen are asking to bring back fish trapping as an alternative to longlining. Have a look at this video and decide for yourself if we need to allow fish trapping, or find something else for commercial fishermen to do. OBTW, I was a commercial fisherman once too. I found other work.

Isn't there a lot of talk about closing red snapper, grouper (other than goliaths), as well as amber jacks to spearing up there?
Traps will almost target those bottom dwellers, other than the AJs. That's insane.
